Vitamin D - for healthy bones, teeth and muscles.

Vitamin D helps to regulate some of the nutrients in your body (calcium and phosphate), these are needed to help keep your bones, teeth and muscles healthy.

During spring and summer, our bodies create vitamin D from direct sunlight onto our skin. However, during the autumn and winter months, we don't always create enough vitamin D from sunlight alone.

Other sources of vitamin D - Vitamin D can be found in a small number of foods. For example: Oily fish, red meat, liver, egg yolks, some fat spreads and cereals.

Is vitamin D in milk? In the UK, milk is generally not a good source of vitamin D!

How can you take care of yourself and your vitamin D? Well, here is what Pill Bear does to supplement his vitamin D and check his levels.

Pill Bear likes to take Vitamin D supplement through the winter, as he doesn’t go outside to much in the winter and spends most of his time in the Pharmacy. The Pharmacists were happy to advise him on what he needed.

Today, we decided to try one of our new Vitamin D testing kits to check his vitamin D levels. If his levels are low, then our trained Pharmacists can offer a high dose vitamin D booster injection for vitamin D deficiency.

Pill Bear’s test showed he had a sufficient level of vitamin D, so no booster needed.

If you are unsure and would like to know if your levels are sufficient, you can pop into our Pharmacy and purchase a vitamin D testing kit. The vitamin D test detects low levels of vitamin D in human fingerstick blood to aid in the screening for Vitamin D deficiency. This test is carried out at home and gives fast effective results.

If a deficiency is indicated, then our pharmacist can administer a booster in our private clinic, to top up your levels.
